A Third-party Evaluation

Accreditation by JCI (Joint Commission International)

Seirei Hamamatsu General Hospital was accredited by JCI (Joint Commssion International) on November 17th, 2012. We are the 5th hospital in Japan to be accredited, and the first outside of the Kanto region.

We took our fourth certification audit in December 2021. Four foreign surveyors will review our operations to ensure that they meet JCI's accreditation standards over a five-day period .The criteria for evaluation range as diverse as 1,200 in 13 chapter. (see below)
The method used for the examination is the tracer method. The method is to "visit actual hospital wards and ask questions of the staff on site to confirm about the process by which patients are admitted and then discharged from the hospital. Occasionally, patients are the ones being asked questions. Once again, it was a very tough examination, but we were able to successfully obtain re-certification.
We aim to provide safe and high quality medical care to the satisfaction of our users by continuing to undergo ongoing audits constantly, and comparing our level of care with the global standard.

What is JCI?

JCI(Joint Commission International) is an organization for evaluation of medical care function established in 1944 as the "international division" of a third-party evaluation organization (Formerly with JICA, established in 1961) for medical institutions in the United States.
The organization is headquartered in Chicago, and conducts accreditation reviews of hospitals worldwide for the purpose of "continuous improvement of healthcare quality and patient safety."
Evaluation criteria of JCI are divided into 14 chapters in total. Then, in each of the evaluation items, we will be reviewed as to whether the criteria are met or not.
Accreditation is "renewable" every three years.
Periodically, reassessments against the standards are conducted, and a key aspect of the reassessments is whether continuous quality improvement is taking place throughout the hospital.

(A public interest incorporated foundation) Hospitals accreditation of Japan Council for Quality Health Care (General Hospital-2)

Since the foundation of the hospital, the hospital has been striving to improve the quality of medical care in order to provide better medical care under the hospital philosophy of "We will take pride in delivering optimum services, remembering always that each patients is our ultimate customer".
Examination of "Hospital accreditation" by (A public interest incorporated foundation) Japan Council for Quality Health Care is one of these efforts.

We underwent first audit in 1997, and have been "reviewed and certified" for renewal every five years since then.
In June 2022, we underwent our sixth (3rdG:Ver.2.0) renewal audit. And we obtained certification successfully.

This accreditation review is a mechanism to evaluate "whether the hospital is appropriately performing its activities (functions) to provide organized medical care." The evaluation item is "Organizational infrastructure and operation management of the hospital, Quality of medical and nursing care, Ensuring user safety, Respect for privacy and human rights, Fulfillment of Role in the Community, etc."

The entire staff will continue to work together to provide higher quality medical care.
